中国中部・武漢の世界クラスの都市緑道が穏やかな生活を提供

【武漢（中国）2017年12月29日新華社＝共同通信JBN】古典的な漢詩、書道といった古代楚文化の中国で最も豊富な遺物、そして最高レベルの近代芸術作品、彫刻、さらには落書き、3Dストリートペイントを呼び物に、中部の主要都市・武漢の中国最大の都市湖沼を囲む緑道の第2段階が12月26日に一般公開された。昨年に完了した第1段階と同様に、その緑道は環境に優しい都市生活を強調している。中国の主要景勝地である東湖の広さは33平方キロメートルに及び、武漢の生態系保護・復旧の取り組みを表している。

東湖の水質は良いときも悪いときもあった。中国科学院の水生生物研究所（Institute of Hydrobiology）は東湖の水質を1956年から監視している。記録によると1960年代と70年代、東湖は水生植物と魚類の宝庫だった。しかし80年代に下水、汚水の量が大きく増え、20世紀末の東湖の水質は不良とされた。それ以来、武漢市政府は湖の浄化に努め、この6月には湖全体が遊泳に適しているとされ、場所によっては直接飲むことさえ可能になった。水生生物研究所の上級エンジニア、ジァン・シャオリン氏は「東湖の水質は過去40年間で最高レベルになった。湖の汚染処理は武漢市全体、そして中国の他の場所にとって有意義な参考モデルである」と述べた。

その一方で、武漢市政府は東湖を取り囲む緑道を中心にした都市型生態系の開発を打ち出した。

Wuhan East Lake Eco-Tourism Scenic Area Management Committeeによると、東湖緑道は第2段階で全長73.28キロメートルになる。第1段階とあわせ、完成した緑道は全長101キロメートルの7つのテーマを持つ景勝路になる。森林、島、湿地、やぶといった多彩な景観の中、人々は心と体の安らぎを感じることができる。

Wuhan Real Estate Groupによると、湖の生態系護岸は建設作業の間も最大限、保存されている。全長54キロメートルの湖の土手で、原生植物は20キロメートルにわたって保存されている。スズカケノキやメタセコイアといった巨木は標識が付けられて永久的に保護されている。緑道の工事期間中、重機の使用は制限された。樹木に空間を与えるために橋と迂回路が作られた。

Wuhan Real Estate Groupのシャン・ヤンアン氏は「東湖にもともとあった生態系を維持するために、われわれは大きな努力をした」と述べた。

原生の樹木に加え、緑道に沿って選別された2万9500本の木が植樹された。

芸術作品も施設の一部として不可欠なものである。湖に近い国際公共芸術公園は武漢で最大の彫刻展示エリアになった。落書き、3Dストリートペイント、ウォールペイントも緑道に色彩を加えている。

緑道の全長の3分の2超を占める第2段階は現地政府が設計ならびに住民の転居、工事を効率的に実施し、予定通り完成した。

完成が2年後に迫った東湖緑道は都市部エコ開発の考え方を強調し、生態系と経済発展を両立させる。

World-class urban greenway slows pace of life in central China's Wuhan

Featuring China's most intensive relics of ancient Chu culture, most splendid

display of classic Chinese poetry and calligraphy, as well as top-level modern

art works and sculptures as well as graffiti and three-dimensional street

paintings, the second phase of a green belt encircling China's largest urban

lake in the central metropolis of Wuhan opened to public on Dec. 26. Together

with the first phase that was completed last year, the Greenway highlights an

eco-friendly urban life. The East Lake, a top-rate scenic spot in China, covers

an area of 33 square kilometers, and witnesses the city's efforts in ecological

protection and restoration.

The water quality of the lake has been through its good and bad days. The

Institute of Hydrobiology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences has been

monitoring its water quality since 1956. According to the records, the lake

used to be a heaven for aquatic plants and fish in the 1960s and 70s. However,

with sharp increase in waste water and sewage in the 80s, the lake water was

rated poor quality by the end of last century. The city government has since

made the efforts to clean the lake. In June, the whole lake has been deemed as

suitable for swimming, some part even for direct drinking. Zhang Xiaolin, a

senior engineer from the institute, said, "The water quality of the East Lake

has reached the best level in past 40 years. The pollution treatment measures

of the lake have reference significance for the whole city, and even other

parts of the country."

In the meantime, the city government proposed to develop an urban ecology based

on the East Lake with an encircling greenway as the key.

According to Wuhan East Lake Eco-Tourism Scenic Area Management Committee, the

second phase of the East Lake Greenway is 73.28 km long. Together with the

first phase, the complete greenway features seven themed landscape trails

stretching a total of 101 km. With a variety of views including forests,

islands, wetlands and bushes, one can find his or her body and mind at ease.

Wuhan Real Estate Group said the ecological revetment of the lake has been

preserved to the utmost extent during the construction. About 20 km of the

original plants of the 54-km-long lake bank were kept. Big trees such as

oriental planes and metasequoia have been labeled and protected permanently.

Use of large machinery was limited during the construction of the Greenway.

Bridges and detours were adopted to make room for trees.

"We've made great efforts to keep the original ecology of the East Lake," said

Shang Yangang with the real estate group.

In addition to the original trees, another 29,500 trees have been selected and

planted along the greenway.

Art works are also an integral part of the facility. An international public

art park by the lake has become the city's largest sculpture display area.

Graffiti, three-dimensional street paintings and wall paintings also add color

to the Greenway.

The second phase of the Greenway, accounting for over two thirds of the total

length, was completed on schedule thanks to the efficiency and execution of the

local government in design, relocation residents and construction.

The East Lake Greenway, which took just two years to be completed, highlights

the idea of urban eco-development, which puts ecology on the same footing as

economic development.
