【ニューアーク（米カリフォルニア州）2016年5月18日PR Newswire＝共同通信JBN】スマートフォン向けの消費者用虹彩認識（iris）技術のリーダーDelta ID Inc.は、日本のマクロミルに委託して実施した、スマートフォンユーザーに関する独自調査結果を公表した。この調査は、指紋とirisバイオメトリック技術に焦点を合わせている。数百人の消費者を対象とした調査には、iris対応のNTTドコモのスマートフォンと、指紋対応のサムソン、シャープ、ソニー、Appleのスマートフォンを使用する消費者が含まれていた。調査の主要結果は次の通り。

＊指紋を使って指紋スキャナー搭載のスマートフォンをアンロックする消費者に比べると、irisスキャナー搭載のスマートフォンを所有する消費者はirisを使ってスマートフォンをアンロックすることが50%も多い

＊約90%のirisスキャナーのユーザーはその機能に満足している

＊消費者はirisスキャナーのスピードと精度が最も魅力的と感じている

irisは人を認識し、認証するためのよりセキュアで信頼できる方式として広く受け入れられている。irisはより広い年齢層や職業の人に役立っている。

NTTドコモは、国際的なOEMの1社が2015年後期にiris認証技術を導入したことを受けて、同技術搭載のスマートフォン2機種を発売した。国際的なOEMである他の1社も2016年前期に1機種を発表した。少なくともOEMの2社がこれに追随し、少なくともスマートフォンとタブレットの4機種が今後1年間のうちに市場投入される。

Iris Recognition from Delta ID Builds Momentum Amongst Consumers and Smartphone OEMS

Delta ID Inc., a leader in consumer-grade iris recognition technology for

smartphones, shared the results of an independent survey of smartphone users

conducted by Macromill in Japan. The focus of the survey was the use of

biometric technologies -- fingerprint and iris recognition for unlocking

phones. The survey of a few hundred consumers included consumers using iris

enabled smartphones from NTT DOCOMO, and fingerprint enabled smartphones from

Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Apple. The key findings of this survey were:

    -- As much as 50% more consumers owning smartphone with iris scanners

       use their iris to unlock their smartphones compared to consumers who

       use their fingerprints to unlock their smartphones with a fingerprint

       scanner

    -- Approximately 90% of the users of iris scanners were satisfied with

       the functionality

    -- Consumers found the speed and accuracy of the iris scanner the most

       appealing

The iris is widely accepted as a more secure and reliable modality to identify

and authenticate people. The iris works for people across broader age groups

and occupations.

NTT DOCOMO introduced two smartphones with iris recognition technology in 2015,

followed by a global OEM who introduced this technology in late 2015 in two

smartphone models. Another Global OEM announced a model in early 2016. At least

two more OEMs and at least four more smartphone and tablet models will be

launched in the market in next 12 months.
