#88 Aston Martin Achieves Third Position for Fuji Qualifying Round and Now Tied for the Drivers' Championship Lead

IRVINE, Calif., July 23, 2015 /PRN=KYODO JBN/ --

While #88 Aston Martin drivers Frank Yu and Richard Lyons ran into tough

challenges in the 3rd race (Rd. 5 & Rd. 6) of the 2015 GT Asia Series, the AMR

team continues their strong support of the skilled drivers and remains

optimistic about the race turnout. The Aston Martin team is now tied for the

drivers' championship lead in the overall series and the #88 drivers enjoyed

second place in the 2nd race of the series in Okayama, a testament of the

pair's extensive experience and victory in the Asian Le Mans series back in

2013. Lyons brings to the race 15 years of racing experience at the Fuji

International Speedway, which he considers one of his home circuits.

Lyons' faith in his team and own abilities remained throughout the race. "I'm

really looking forward to one of my home circuits. This time of year in Japan

is the rainy season so we might have to find a new setup to be competitive. We

will give it everything!" said Lyons.

The #88 Aston Martin made good times in both the 45-minute sessions and the

qualifying rounds. Skilled veteran Lyons set a record time of 1:41:345 in the

practice session, with the duo finishing second overall. The first qualifying

round resulted in third position for the #88 with a time of 1:52:329, while the

car reached eighth position for the second qualifying round with a time of

1:55:778.

Off to a great start, Yu and Lyons faced considerable obstacles in the race,

made more challenging by the unpredictable weather and wet track. Early on in

the race, Lyons battled it out with the Ferraris and made heavy contact with

one of the Bentleys. The resulting damage put Lyons to a pit stop, while Yu

pushed on after the driver change, doing all he could despite the setbacks,

surging through the finish line and landing at a respectable 11th place in Rd.

5 of the race.

The #99 Aston Martin car driven by Darryl O'Young and Jonathan Venter finished

2nd in Rd. 6 while Lyons and Yu finished 17th place. The #88 pair gave it their

all even with an unfortunate incident that caused them to crash into a wall and

drop back their position. Yu expressed his unwavering confidence. "It was a

tough race, dealing with the weather and driving really hard to try and make up

as much time as possible was difficult, but I am glad we at least scored some

points."

"The team made good time in the practice and qualifying rounds, and we are

proud of this achievement," said Chris Simonian, Vice President of Marketing of

Interush. "Considering the challenges the team experienced, we applaud their

tenacity and celebrate the fact that the AMR team is now tied for the drivers'

championship lead."
