Japan Pulls Off Strongest Showing at Cannes Film Festival in Decade

At the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, the Japan Day Project set up a Japan Pavilion and held various events and attractions, enabling Japan to achieve its strongest showing in over a decade. Besides the seven Japanese films that were selected to screen at Cannes, large crowds flocked to the Japan Pavilion to forge new business connections with the Japanese film industry.

The Japan Pavilion hosted seminars and networking sessions. Running from May 16-18, the "New Gateways to the Japanese Industry" seminar series facilitated business access to the Japanese entertainment industry. The discussions included stimulating new business between Hollywood and Japan, adapting Japanese manga and video games and co-producing with Japan. At the final seminar, "All-Japan Summit: Power Players Panel Discussion," CEOs and executives of Japan's film industry shared their visions for the global market.

The premiere of a 104-minute showreel of 47 of the latest Japanese films from 25 companies was filled with film industry professionals eager to get a look at Japan's current film scene.

Japan's activities at Cannes culminated with "KANPAI NIGHT," an invite-only industry celebration held at Le Grand Hotel de Cannes, attracting 1,100 guests, including Japanese and Asian film stars and prominent industry figures.

The Japan Day Project is honored to congratulate Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa on winning the Best Director Prize of Un Certain Regard for "Kishibe no Tabi" ("Journey to the Shore") at Cannes this year.

After Cannes, the Japan Day Project will host events in Paris, related to the Japan Expo (July 2-5). For the latest information, please check:  JAPANDAY.jp (http://www.japanday.jp/)
