APWG CeCOS VIII

CeCOS VIII

APWG Assembles Cybercrime Fighters in Hong Kong to Plan Global Agenda

PR56245

HONG KONG, Mar. 25, 2014/PRN=KYODO JBN/--

      - Cybercrime Fighters Tuning Response Systems for Global Engagement

The 8th annual APWG Counter eCrime Operations Summit (CeCOS VIII) will

assemble in Hong Kong, April 8-10, 2014, as the APWG gathers global leaders

from the financial services, technology, government, law enforcement and

communications sectors and research centers to map the cybercrime threatscape -

and plot a unified global response.

"Cybercrime gangs' fraud schemes now would put the best marketing

departments to shame," said APWG Secretary General Peter Cassidy. "The

precision of technical attacks today previously could only have been managed by

the largest research labs, the most expert developers, or state-sponsored

organizations with deep pockets."

Mr. Cassidy concluded, "When the bad guys achieve the technical

sophistication of nation states and corporate labs, you know it's time to get

organized."

APWG CeCOS VIII will review response approaches for counter-cybercrime

managers and forensic professionals in the private and public sectors.

Presenters will review case studies of national and regional economies under

attack, as well as of trans-national forensic cooperation. The program will

examine technologies and techniques for cybercrime response and for forensic

enterprises.

Cybercrime fighters from the field will examine:

    -- Public-source criminal tracking techniques

-- Cloud and mobile malware forensics

-- The latest crimeware and web-based attack schemes

-- Bitcoin as a cybercrime tool

-- Globalized industrial cybercrime event data sharing

    -- Ransomware scams menacing businesses

-- Global approaches to securing the Domain Name System

CeCOS VIII is an open conference for members of the electronic-crime

fighting community.

The APWG is collaborating with Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation

Limited (HKIRC) as a local partner and sponsor of the CeCOS to develop the

program.

The program is on April 8, 9 and 10 in Hong Kong at The Mira Hong Kong in

Kowloon.
