【プリンストン（米ニュージャージー州）2014年1月28日PRN=共同JBN】TOEFL（登録商標、http://www.ets.org/toefl）テストのクリエーター、Educational Testing Service （ETS）は「TOEFL（登録商標）Primary（商標）」テストの開始を発表する。このテストは特に8歳から上の生徒を対象にしたもので、英語教室における英語によるコミュニケーション能力および進渉状況を測る。成長を続ける各種のTOEFLテストの中で最も新しいTOEFL Primaryテストは2013年、最初にブラジルと韓国で実施され成功を収めている。

TOEFL Primaryテストの狙いは以下である。

　＊8歳以上の生徒の全般的な英語熟達度を測定する

　＊生徒それぞれのリスニング、リーディング、スピーキングの能力について寸評を提供する

　＊生徒の能力に関する情報を一般的に容認された国際基準に照らして提供することによって授業、学習をサポートする

この評価は教師や学校に、個々の生徒の成長に即したタイムリーで有意義なフィードバックを提供する。リーディングおよびリスニングはペーパーテストで行われ、採点もそれぞれの実施地で行われる。スピーキング・テストはコンピューターを使って行われ、ETSが採点する。

現在TOEFL Primaryテストはベトナムおよび世界のその他の地域で導入されている。

TOEFL Programエグゼクティブ・ディレクター、ジェニファー・ブラウン氏は「TOEFL Primaryテストは年少の生徒に年齢に応じたコンテンツを提供するもので、例えば教室のような標準化されたテスト環境設定の元で実施される。評価は年少の生徒の認識力、身体、情緒的な成長段階に合わせて作られており、その結果は欧州言語共通参照枠（CEFR）上でマッピングされるため、生徒たちの将来の成功のためしっかりした基礎になる」と語った。

TOEFL Primaryは早い時期に生徒の英語リーディング能力を開発する目的で、スコアをMetaMetrics（登録商標）のLexile（登録商標、レクサイルhttp://www.metametricsinc.com）リーディング手法にリンクさせており、生徒の英語リーディング能力に最適の本や書物が見つけやすくなる。

ETS Introduces the TOEFL(R) Primary(TM) Tests to Support Young Students of English

Educational Testing Service (ETS), creator of the TOEFL(R)

(http://www.ets.org/toefl) test, announces the launch of the TOEFL(R)

Primary(TM) tests. Designed specifically for students ages 8 and up, the tests

measure the English communication skills and progress of students in English

classes. The TOEFL Primary tests, the newest addition to the growing TOEFL

Family of Assessments, launched its first two successful administrations in

Brazil and Korea in 2013.

The TOEFL Primary tests are designed to:

    -- Assess the general English-language proficiency of young students ages 8

       and up

    -- Provide a snapshot of each student's ability in listening, reading and

       speaking

    -- Support teaching and learning by giving information about students'

       abilities in relation to a widely accepted international standard

The assessments provide meaningful and timely feedback to teachers and schools

on each student's individual development. The Reading and Listening tests are

paper-delivered and scored locally. The Speaking tests are computer-delivered

and are scored by ETS.

Currently, the TOEFL Primary tests are being introduced in Vietnam and in

various locations around the world.

"The TOEFL Primary tests offer age appropriate content for young students to be

administered under standardized testing conditions, such as a classroom

setting," says Jennifer Brown, Executive Director of the TOEFL Program. "The

assessments are tailored to the cognitive, physical and emotional development

of young students and results are mapped to the Common European Framework of

Reference (CEFR), which helps build a strong foundation for their future

success."

To help students develop a relationship with reading English early on, the

TOEFL Primary Reading scores are also linked to MetaMetrics(R) Lexile(R)

(http://www.metametricsinc.com/) reading measures ― making it easier to find

the books and articles that best match students' English-reading abilities.
