◎駐日貿易代表にウォーカー氏　オーストラリアNSW州政府が任命

【東京2013年10月21日AAPメディアネット・インターナショナル＝共同JBN】オーストラリアの主要州であるニューサウスウェールズ（NSW）州はこのほど日本に貿易投資事務所を開設、引き続き豪日間の緊密な経済関係を構築するために経験豊富な代表を任命した。

アンドリュー・ストーナーNSW州副首相兼貿易投資相は今週東京に滞在、経済界の要人と会い、ジェフ・ウォーカー（Geoff Walker）氏の駐日NSW州通商投資代表任命の周知を図る。

ストーナー州副首相は、今年始動させたNSW国際関与戦略（International Engagement Strategy）で、日本は同州の優先市場に指定されている、と以下のように語った。

「東京の貿易投資事務所開設と代表任命は、この重要な関係に対するわれわれの取り組みを強調している」

「ウォーカー氏は新たな任務に豊かな経験を持ち込む。彼は日本語スキルと広範な駐日ビジネス経験を駆使して、日本のビジネスチャンス拡大というNSWの方針を推進するだろう。彼は日本の海運、食品成分を含め、運輸、製造、流通業界で25年以上の経営経験がある」

「ウォーカー氏はまた、この任務にかなりのビジネス、文化知識をもたらし、強力な異文化間経営、交渉スキルで知られている。彼はNSW州と日本の緊密な経済関係の構築継続に主要な役割を演じるだろう」

「2012－13年のNSW州と日本の相互商品貿易は160億豪ドル強に達し、5年間に12％成長した。実際、NSW州はオーストラリアと日本の相互貿易の4分の1以上を占めている。だからこそ、経済界の要人と会談してウォーカー氏を紹介、この重要な関係を伸ばし続けるために、私は今週日本を訪問している」

「私はまた、滞日中に東京で開かれる第51回日豪経済合同委員会で講演する。これは、両国間の友好関係を構築、相互経済利益を促進し、新しい日豪協調を支援するうえで日豪経済委員会と豪日経済委員会が果たす任務を承認する絶好の機会になる」

ウォーカー氏は、日本の経済界でNSW州の多大な投資機会を推進する見通しに興奮している、と次のように語った。

「日本とNSW州の深い経済関係を増大させるため、日本の官民両部門で長年培った経験を生かせる機会を歓迎する。」

「それは50年を超えて築き上げられた深く広い関係である」

ウォーカー氏の経歴には、7年間の在日オーストラリア・ニュージーランド商工会議所（ANZCCJ）セクレタリー、1988-98年の在日NSW州政府事務所長が含まれる。

同氏はまた、国際複合企業Kerryの日本子会社Kerry Japanの社長を務めたこともある。ウォーカー氏率いる同社の日本での売上高は1000万豪ドルから5000万豪ドルに増加した。

ウィーカー氏は「NSW州の日本におけるプレゼンスは21世紀中核産業の一層の提携推進に資するだろう。われわれの焦点は、インフラ、クリーンテクノロジー、高度な製造、鉱業、アグリビジネスのような分野の貿易、投資に当てられる」と語った。

Australia's Leading State Appoints Japan Trade Commissioner

   Australia's leading State - New South Wales (NSW) - has opened a new Trade &

Investment Office in Japan and appointed a highly experienced Commissioner to

continue to build close economic ties between the two nations.

   NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Stoner is in

Tokyo this week, meeting business leaders and promoting the appointment of

Geoff Walker as the new NSW Trade & Investment Commissioner in Japan.

   Mr Stoner said Japan was identified as a priority market for the State in

the NSW International Engagement Strategy launched earlier this year.

"Opening a Trade & Investment Office in Tokyo and appointing a Commissioner

underlines our commitment to growing this important relationship," Mr Stoner

said.

   "Mr Walker brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With his Japanese

language skills and extensive business experience in the country, he will give

impetus to NSW's drive to increase business opportunities with Japan.

"He has more than 25 years management experience in the transport,

manufacturing and distribution industries, including marine transport and food

ingredients, in Japan.

   "Mr Walker also brings considerable business and cultural knowledge to the

role and is known for his strong cross-cultural management and negotiating

skills. "He will play a major role in continuing to build close economic ties

between NSW and Japan.

   "Two-way merchandise trade between NSW and Japan was worth just over A$16

billion in 2012-13, an increase of 12 per cent in five years.

"In fact, NSW accounts for over a quarter of bilateral trade between Australia

and Japan. "That is why I am visiting Japan this week to continue to grow our

important relationship by meeting business leaders and introducing Mr Walker.

   "During the visit I will also address the 51st Japan-Australia Joint

Business Conference in Tokyo."This provides a wonderful opportunity to

recognise the work of the Japan-Australia Business Co-operation Committee and

its Australian counterpart, the Australia Japan Business Co-operation Committee

in building the friendship between our nations, advancing our mutual business

interests and supporting new Japanese-Australian collaborations."

   Mr Walker said he was excited by the prospect of promoting NSW's numerous

investment opportunities to Japanese businesses.

   "I welcome the opportunity to utilise my years of experience in Japan in

both the public and private sectors to increase the close business relationship

between Japan and NSW," Mr Walker said.

   "It is a deep and broad relationship built up over more than 50 years."

Mr Walker's background includes seven years as secretary of the Australian and

New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and Commissioner at the NSW

Government Office in Japan from 1988-98.

   He is also a former president of the Japanese subsidiary, Kerry Japan, of

international conglomerate Kerry. Under Mr Walker's leadership the company's

sales in Japan grew from A$10 million to A$50 million.

   "The NSW presence in Japan will help further develop partnerships in the key

industries of the 21st century," Mr Walker said.

   "Our focus will be on opportunities for trade and investment in areas such

as infrastructure, clean technology, advanced manufacturing, mining and

agribusiness."
