◎第57回ゴルフW杯の主催取りやめ　ミッションヒルズ・グループが発表

【深セン（中国）2013年5月13日PRN＝共同JBN】中国の大手ゴルフ・レジャー運営企業のミッションヒルズ・グループは13日、ことし11月に開催予定の第57回ワールドカップ（ゴルフ）を開催しないと発表した。この決定はPGAツアー国際連盟とともに行われたもので、この権威ある国別対抗ワールドカップは、オーストラリアのロイヤルメルボルンゴルフクラブが2013年のW杯を主催すると確認しており、2006年以来初めて海外で開催される。

ミッションヒルズ・グループは、W杯が真に国際的イベントであるべきだとの考えが今回の決定の理由だとしており、同グループのテニエル・チュー副会長は「2013年W杯がオーストラリアのロイヤルメルボルンゴルフクラブで開催されることを喜んでいる。ミッションヒルズとしては、このトーナメントの世界的権威を維持する必要を認識しており、トーナメントそのものと国際的ゴルフコミュニティーの双方が、2013年W杯が中国以外の場所で行われるメリットを享受できると考えている。とはいえ、われわれはこれからもトーナメントを引き続き支援し、トーナメントが中国に戻ってくる際にはこれを主催することにコミットしている」と語った。

チュー副会長はさらに「国際トーナメントで最近オーストラリア出身のゴルファーが成功を収めているのに続き、オーストラリアはまたW杯を主催することを誇りにするだろうし、ロイヤルメルボルンゴルフクラブが今年のイベントを成功させるよう願っている」と付け加えた。

ミッションヒルズは創立以来、中国でのW杯を記録的な5回にわたり主催しており、W杯の歴史上で最も数多くW杯の行われた場所になっている。同グループは中国におけるゴルフの普及と発展に常にコミットしてきている。2016年の五輪大会にはゴルフが競技種目に戻ることになっており、同グループはまた、ジャックニクラウス・ジュニアチャンピオンシップ、ファルドシリーズ・アジア、アニカ・インターナショナル、ミッションヒルズ・ジュニアシリーズのようなさまざまな国際試合を主催することでジュニアゴルフの振興を図っている。

ミッションヒルズは常に、ゴルフへの新しいオーディエンスを中国で増やす努力を重ねている。

同グループによる中国でゴルフを普及させるための計画の中には、ワールド・セレブリティー・プロアマ、ワールド・レディース・チャンピオンシップ、ミッションヒルズ・ゴルファソンが含まれている。

The Honor Continues as Mission Hills China Hands 2013 World Cup of Golf to Australia

    Group to Focus on Golf Development in Bid to Keep World Cup Global

    Leading Chinese golf and leisure operator Mission Hills Group today

announced that it will not be staging the 57th edition of the World Cup of

Golf, scheduled to take place in November this year. The decision, which has

been made in conjunction with the Federation of PGA Tours, will see the

prestigious tournament head overseas for the first time since 2006, with

Australia's Royal Melbourne Golf Club confirmed as the host venue for the 2013

edition.

    The Group has cited the need to keep the World Cup a truly global event as

the reason behind the decision, as Vice Chairman of Mission Hills Group,

Tenniel Chu explained, "We're happy that the 2013 edition of the World Cup of

Golf will be staged at Australia's Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Mission Hills

recognizes the need to maintain the tournament's prestigious global status, and

as such we feel that both the tournament and the international golfing

community will benefit from the 2013 edition being staged outside China. We do,

however, remain supportive to the future of the tournament and are committed to

hosting the event again when the tournament returns to China."

    "Following the recent success of Australian players in international

tournaments and the country's status as a leading international golf

destination, Australia would be proud to stage this tournament once again and

we wish the Royal Melbourne Golf Club every success with this year's event,"

continued Chu.

    Mission Hills has hosted the tournament a record five times in China since

its establishment, more than any other venue in the world in the tournament's

history. The Group has always been committed to the promotion and development

of golf in China. With the game returning to the Olympic Games in 2016, the

Group also seeks to foster junior golf development through hosting of various

international competitions such as the Jack Nicklaus Junior Championship, Faldo

Series Asia, Annika Invitational and Mission Hills Junior Series.

    Mission Hills constantly made conscious efforts to take golf to new

audiences in China. The Group's new initiatives to popularize golf in the
