【サンノゼ（米カリフォルニア州）2013年4月16日PRN=共同JBBN】アルテラ（Altera Corporation、http://www.altera.com、NASDAQ:ALTR）は15日、Applied Micro Circuits Corporation（http://www.apm.com、NASDAQ:AMCC）の全額出資子会社TPACKを買収することで合意したと発表した。TPACKはパケットおよびオプティカル・ネットワーキング機器サプライヤーを対象とする完全なFPGA（field-programmable gate array）向け光伝送ネットワーク（OTN）製品を提供している。アルテラはこの買収によって、そのOTNソリューション開発ロードマップを加速、拡大して、2010年に有力なOTN IPプロバイダーであるAvalon Microelectronicsを成功裏に買収した結果生じたカスタマーデザインの引き合い案件数の増加に貢献することができる。TPACKをアルテラの現行のOTN開発チームと結合することによって、同社はOTN機器市場向けFPGA向けIPソリューションの成長を継続する立場になる。調査会社Infoneticsによれば、同市場は2017年までに130億ドルに達する見通しである。

TPACKはSoftSilicon（登録商標）技術の形でOTNソリューションを開発して、ASSP（Application Specific Standard Product）と同様、FPGAを対象とするOTNネットワークおよび先駆的な標準チップセット・ソリューション上で、マッピング、多重化（マルチプレクシング）、パケットの相互接続を提供する。長年製造されてきたSoftSilicon製品は、アルテラ製FPGA用として即日入手可能である。TPACK製品は10-Gbps、40-Gbpsおよび100-Gbpsの3種で、大手OEM各社で成功裏にASSPに取って代わっている。TPACKの買収はアルテラのOTNソリューション・ポートフォリオを強化することになる。同社ソリューション・ポートフォリオは、メトロ・アプリケーション向けにコストを最適化した20-Gbps OTNマッパー、パケット光伝送システム向け部分的再構成技術を使った 10 x 10 Gbps OTN相互接続などが含まれる。

Altera Expands OTN Solution Capabilities with Acquisition of TPACK

    Altera Corporation (http://www.altera.com) (NASDAQ: ALTR) today announced

it has agreed to acquire TPACK, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Applied Micro

Circuits Corporation (http://www.apm.com) (NASDAQ:AMCC).  TPACK delivers

complete FPGA-based OTN (optical transport network) products targeting packet

and optical networking equipment suppliers.  The acquisition enables Altera to

accelerate and expand its OTN solutions roadmap to support the increasing

pipeline of customer designs resulting from Altera's successful acquisition in

2010 of Avalon Microelectronics, a leading OTN IP provider. Combining TPACK

with Altera's current OTN development team positions Altera for continued

growth in FPGA-based IP solutions for the OTN equipment market, which is

forecast to reach $13B by 2017, according to research firm Infonetics.

    TPACK develops OTN solutions in the form of SoftSilicon(R) technology to

provide mapping, multiplexing and cross-connection of packets over an OTN

network and pioneered standard chipset solutions similar to ASSPs, yet

targeting FPGAs. SoftSilicon products are available today on Altera FPGAs and

have been in production for years. TPACK products have successfully displaced
