【プリンストン(米ニュージャージー州)2013年3月6日PRN=共同JBN】TOEFL(登録商標)テスト(http://www.ets.org/toefl)を創設したEducational Testing Service(ETS)は今年で3年連続になるTOEFL(登録商標)奨学金プログラムの開始を発表した。この奨学金プログラムは日本のTOEFLテスト受験者を対象に優秀な学業成績を示した人を表彰するもの。

ETSは表彰するのにふさわしいと認めた14人の学生に対して総額4万2000ドルを授与、2013年度に日本もしくは海外で学ぼうとする学生または院生の学資とする。

ETS上級副社長兼最高業務責任者(COO)のウォルト・マクドナルド氏は「英語は今でも世界の学校、ビジネスで優先的に使われる国際言語である」として次のように述べた。「勉学にいそしむ学生に高等教育の機会を与えるため、日本における2013年TOEFL奨学金プログラムを発表できることは大きな喜びである。ETSとしては優秀な成績を持つ2013年度の奨学生を選べるよう期待している」

日本でTOEFLテストを受けた人の中から選考された14人を対象にTOEFL奨学金3000ドルが提供される。2013年度TOEFL奨学金を受ける資格は以下の通り。

*現在、日本に在住していること。

*オンライン奨学金申請書)に記入し、成績証明書をアップロードすること。

*TOEFL(登録商標)Destinations Directory(PDF)

http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/TOEFL/pdf/univ0708.pdf)に記載された教育機関で2013年に学部または大学院の学位取得過程を開始すること。

*妥当なTOEFLスコアを獲得して英語力を示すこと。

*100点満点で80点以上、または4点満点で3.0点以上の成績評価点平均を示し、また優れた指導力を発揮するための技量、およびコミュニティー・サービスなどの課外活動を含め全体として多方面にわたる活動歴を持つこと。

2013 TOEFL(R) Scholarship Program Recognizes Academic Excellence by Students in Japan

    US$42,000 in Scholarship Funding Available for Academic Study in 2013

    For the third consecutive year, Educational Testing Service (ETS), the

creator of the TOEFL(R) test (http://www.ets.org/toefl ), announced the launch

of the TOEFL(R) Scholarship Program in Japan. The scholarship program honors

TOEFL test takers in Japan who have demonstrated outstanding academic

achievement.

    ETS will recognize 14 deserving students by awarding a total of US$42,000

in funding for undergraduate or graduate study in Japan and/or overseas for the

2013 academic school year.

    "The English language continues to be the preferred international language

of choice for both academic and business purposes worldwide," commented Walt

MacDonald, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, ETS. "ETS is

very pleased to announce the 2013 TOEFL Scholarship Program in Japan to offer

higher education opportunities for dedicated students. We look forward to

recognizing the outstanding achievement of the 2013 scholarship recipients."

    Fourteen US$3,000 TOEFL Scholarships will be awarded to TOEFL test takers

in Japan. To be eligible for the 2013 TOEFL Scholarship Program, individuals

must:

    -- currently live in Japan

    -- complete the online scholarship application and upload

       academic transcripts

    -- begin an undergraduate or graduate degree in 2013 at an educational

       institution listed in the TOEFL(R) Destinations Directory(PDF)

       (http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/TOEFL/pdf/univ0708.pdf)

    -- demonstrate English proficiency with a valid TOEFL score

    -- hold a grade point average of 80 or higher on a 100-point scale, or a

       3.0 grade point average or higher on a 4-point scale

    -- demonstrate effective leadership skills and an overall well- rounded

       portfolio with extracurricular activities, including community service

    More information regarding the 2013 TOEFL Scholarship Program is available

by April 30, 2013.  Winners will be notified in May 2013.

    The ETS Scholarship and Recognition Program (SRP) group, which annually

administers millions of dollars in new and renewable awards in the United

States and abroad, is coordinating the ETS Scholarship Program in Japan. In

addition to program consultation, SRP developed application materials and

guidelines for the review of the applications.
