【イズリン（米ニュージャージー州）2013年2月7日PRN＝共同JBN】医用手袋などプロテクションソリューションの世界大手であるアンセル（Ansell）社は7日、同社がスリランカのコロンボ郊外にあるビヤガマ輸出地区に最近建設した1万6000平方フィートの最新鋭の研究開発施設が全面稼働を開始したと発表した。スリランカの研究開発センターは、アンセルが設置した4番目の中核的研究拠点であり、既存のマレーシア、メキシコ、北米にあるセンターに続くものである。研究開発資源に追加投資し、さらに研究開発センターをアンセルの製造施設と同一地点に新設することは、イノベーションを加速し世界中の顧客からの新しいニーズに迅速に応えるというアンセルのコミットメントを明確に示している。

アンセル社のマネジングディレクター兼最高経営責任者（CEO）であるマグナス・ニコリン氏は「アンセルはスリランカで高品質の産業・医療製品を製造してきた長年の実績があり、新製品開発は今後、同地域における製造を補完するとともに当社のプレゼンスを拡大することになる。これは、アンセルがスリランカの人材および将来を信頼し、コミットしていることを表している」と語った。

全体で30人の科学技術スペシャリストが採用され、素材と製造プロセスの両面における最新技術および知見がもたらされた。

スリランカ輸出振興庁のスジャータ・ウィーラクーン長官は「アンセルはスリランカで20年以上にわたり2000人以上を雇用し、長期にわたりスリランカの輸出産業にとって重要な企業となってきた。アンセルが新たな研究開発センター開設によって、地域のビジネスリーダーとしての役割をいっそう確固たるものにすると確信している」と語った。

スリランカ投資庁（BOI）の会長兼ディレクターゼネラルであるラクシュマン・ジャヤウィーラ博士は「BOIの下で長年にわたり投資を続けてきたアンセルのような優れたオーストラリア企業がスリランカに研究開発施設を開設したことを大変うれしく思う。研究開発はあらゆる企業の生産プロセスにとって不可欠な要素であり、一国への投資の決定に影響を与える。さらに、アンセルの新規研究開発施設のようなイノベーション・セクターを育成する投資はスリランカをナレッジ・ハブ（Knowledge Hub）に転換するという政府の戦略計画にも合致している」と語った。

Ansell Opens New Research and Development Centre in Sri Lanka

Ansell, a global leader in protection solutions, announces that the recently

constructed 16,000 square foot state-of-the-art research and development (R&D)

facility in the Biyagama Export Zone outside Colombo, Sri Lanka is now fully

operational.  The Sri Lanka R&D center is the fourth center of excellence

Ansell has installed-adding to its existing Malaysia, Mexico and North

America-based centers. The investment in additional R&D resources and the

decision to create and co-locate its R&D centers with the Ansell manufacturing

structure underline the company's commitment to accelerate innovation and to

faster serve the emerging unmet needs of customers worldwide.

"Ansell has a long track record of manufacturing high quality industrial and

medical products in Sri Lanka, and new product development will now complement

manufacturing and expand our presence in the region," said Magnus Nicolin,

In total, 30 science and technology specialists have been recruited, bringing

along the latest technology and knowledge on both the material side as well as

the manufacturing processes side.
