Masimo Showcases Advanced, Noninvasive Patient Monitoring Technologies at Arab Health
PR51951
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 28, 2013 /PRN=KYODO JBN/ --
- Visit Hall 1 U.S. Pavilion, Booth E39, to See Tomorrow's Medical Technology
Today
Masimo (http://www.masimo.com/ ) (NASDAQ: MASI) returns to Arab Health
(http://www.arabhealthonline.com/ ) Jan. 28-31, the world's longest running
healthcare exhibition and congress held each year in Dubai, UAE, to showcase
advanced, noninvasive patient monitoring technologies - including breakthrough
SET(R) Measure-Through Motion pulse oximetry and rainbow(R) Pulse
CO-Oximetry(R) - that are becoming the standard-of-care across the Middle East.
Masimo will demonstrate more than a half-dozen handheld, mobile, OR, ICU, NICU,
and bedside technologies. Leading-edge Masimo medical devices on display at
Arab Health include:
Radical-7(R)
The 2012 Radical-7(R) empowers clinicians to improve patient outcomes and
reduce the cost of care in multiple ways, such as reducing blood
transfusion-related costs and detecting bleeding earlier with noninvasive total
hemoglobin (SpHb(R)), optimizing fluid management with Pleth Variability Index
(PVI(R)), and enabling reliable detection of respiratory depression with
acoustic respiration rate (RRa(TM)).
(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120326/LA76174-c)
Masimo rainbow(R) technology allows clinicians to noninvasively measure
multiple blood, fluid, and ventilation parameters that previously required
invasive or complicated procedures, including SpHb(R), oxygen content
(SpOC(TM)), carboxyhemoglobin (SpCO(R)), methemoglobin (SpMet(R)), PVI(R), and
RRa(TM), along with Masimo SET(R) Measure-Through Motion and low perfusion
pulse oximetry for oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse rate, and perfusion index
(PI). With touch, drag, and drop functionality, clinicians can move, expand, or
collapse any parameter on screen for real-time analysis. Standard wireless
connectivity in the handheld Radical-7(R) keeps patients connected even when
moving from the OR, to critical care areas, to the general floor.
Masimo Patient SafetyNet(TM)
The Masimo Patient SafetyNet(TM) remote monitoring and clinician notification
system combines Masimo rainbow(R) Pulse CO-Oximetry(TM) and rainbow(R) Acoustic
Monitoring(TM) with wireless clinician notifications via pager or smartphone -
providing an unmatched level of safety for up to 80 patients on four floors.
Patient SafetyNet facilitates early clinical response to preempt sentinel
events and avoid unnecessary ICU transfers while helping meet The Joint
Commission and Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation guidelines for patient
safety.(1)
(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110912/LA64995)
SpfO2(TM)
SpfO2(TM) is a new fractional arterial oxygen saturation parameter through the
rainbow(R) Universal ReSposable SuperSensor(TM), the first noninvasive sensor
to provide simultaneous monitoring of SpHb(R), SpCO(R), SpMet(R), SpfO2(TM),
SpOC(TM), Perfusion Index, PVI(R), and Measure-Through Motion and Low Perfusion
SpO2 and pulse rate. Until now, pulse oximeters could only measure and display
functional oxygen saturation (SpO2), so when patients had elevated
carboxyhemoglobin (from carbon monoxide poisoning) and/or elevated
methemoglobin (negative reaction to more than 30 common drugs used in
hospitals) the displayed functional oxygen saturation overestimated the actual
oxygen saturation value. SpfO2(TM)allows more precise arterial oxygenation
assessment and may allow earlier interventions and more timely therapeutic
decisions. SpfO2(TM) is pending U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance.

About Masimo
Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI) is the global leader in innovative noninvasive monitoring
technologies that significantly improve patient care - helping solve "unsolvable"
problems. In 1995, the company debuted Measure-Through Motion and Low Perfusion
pulse oximetry, known as Masimo SET(R), which virtually eliminated false alarms
and increased pulse oximetry's ability to help clinicians detect
life-threatening events. More than 100 independent and objective studies have
shown that Masimo SET(R) outperforms other pulse oximetry technologies, even
under the most challenging clinical conditions, including patient motion and
low peripheral perfusion. In 2005, Masimo introduced rainbow SET(R) Pulse
CO-Oximetry technology, allowing noninvasive and continuous monitoring of blood
constituents that previously required invasive procedures, including total
hemoglobin (SpHb(R)), oxygen content (SpOCTM), carboxyhemoglobin (SpCO(R)),
methemoglobin (SpMet(R)), and Pleth Variability Index (PVI(R)), in addition to
SpO2, pulse rate, and perfusion index (PI). In 2008, Masimo introduced Patient
SafetyNet(TM), a remote monitoring and wireless clinician notification system
designed to help hospitals avoid preventable deaths and injuries associated
with failure to rescue events. In 2009, Masimo introduced rainbow(R) Acoustic
MonitoringTM, the first-ever noninvasive and continuous monitoring of acoustic
respiration rate (RRa(TM)). Masimo's rainbow(R) SET(R) technology platform
offers a breakthrough in patient safety by helping clinicians detect
life-threatening conditions and helping guide treatment options. In 2010,
Masimo acquired SedLine(R), a pioneer in the development of innovative brain
function monitoring technology and devices. In 2012, Masimo acquired assets of
Spire Semiconductor, LLC, maker of advanced light emitting diode (LED) and
other advanced component-level technologies; and Phasein AB, a developer and
manufacturer of ultra-compact mainstream and sidestream capnography, multigas
analyzers, and handheld capnometry solutions. Masimo SET(R) and Masimo
rainbow(R) SET(R) technologies also can be found in over 100 multiparameter
patient monitors from over 50 medical device manufacturers around the world.
Founded in 1989, Masimo has the mission of "Improving Patient Outcome and
Reducing Cost of Care ... by Taking Noninvasive Monitoring to New Sites and
Applications(R)." Additional information about Masimo and its products may be
