ハワード・アンダーソン氏が1970年に創設したYankee Groupは、通信業界を専門とした最初の独立系情報技術（IT）市場のリサーチ・アドバイザリー企業として登場した。Yankee Groupはその社史を通して、新興のITおよび通信技術、ビジネスモデル、ユーザートレンドにおける独立したオピニオンリーダーとしての評価を維持、拡大してきた。Yankee Groupは現在、他のアナリスト企業よりも多くのモビリティー市場をカバーするアナリストを擁し、モビリティーが2016年には3兆ドル市場機会になると予測しているが、その革命に向けた知見とデータを提供するオピニオンリーダーである。

2010年以来、Yankee Groupはテリー・ウオーターズCEOが率いてきた。買収後もウオーターズ氏は引き続きYankee GroupのCEOを務め、Yankee Groupの会長となるマッカーシーCEOの直属となる。ウオーターズ氏は買収について以下のように語った。
