【サンラモン（米カリフォルニア州）2012年12月20日PRN＝共同JBN】エネルギー管理、商用、家庭用アプリケーション向け無線ソリューション規格を策定するグローバルな標準化団体であるジグビー・アライアンス（ZigBee、登録商標）は20日、ZigBeeによる最新のGreen Power機能を通じてZigBee製品を駆動する最も環境に優しい方法を発表した。これによってスイッチや調光器などの製品はバッテリーやACメイン電源を使用しなくても無線でネットワークされる新たな選択肢となるエネルギーハーベスティング・ソースによって容易に駆動することができ、メンテナンスフリーで環境に優しいソリューションを実現できる。Green Powerに関する無料の公開ウェビナーは1月24日に予定されている。

Green Powerは、ZigBee 2012規格の機能拡張の一部であるZigBee PRO機能セットに含まれているオプション機能である。この規格は最近認証され、ジグビー・アライアンスのメンバーにリリースされた。Green PowerはZigBee PRO機能を大幅に拡張し、無線センサー、制御ネットワーク、インターネット・オブ・シングス（IoT）のグローバル規格として、Green Powerの指導的な立場をより強固にするものである。ZigBee PRO Green Power製品を使用することにより、消費者および企業は、安全上ないしは歴史的保存目的の理由で電源の使用が許可されず利用できない場所なども含め、多数のエリアにZigBee機器を追加して利用することが可能になる。製品メーカーは、成長を続け革新的かつ競争的なエコシステムに裏打ちされているZigBee規格をよりどころに、ZigBeeをさらに多くの製品に自信を持って実装することができる。

IHSでコネクティビティーリサーチ担当マネジャーを務めるリサ・アロースミス氏は「例えば商用ビルディング・オートメーションにエネルギーハーベスティングを利用すれば、事業コストを軽減できるだけでなく、組織が『グリーン』資格認定を実証することにも役立つ。さらに、電力ラインを使用しない3500万のZigBee対応「スマートホーム」機器およびホームオートメーション機器が2017年までに出荷されると予測されており、ZigBee PRO Green Power機能は一般住宅スペースにとっても魅力的なオプションとなる」と語った。

ジグビー・アライアンスの広範なテストと認証計画開発プロセスの一環として、アライアンスはグリーンピーク・テクノロジー（GreenPeak Technologies）、フィリップス（Philips）、シュナイダー・エレクトリック（Schneider Electric）、テキサスインスツルメンツ（Texas Instruments）のゴールデン・ユニット開発キットを選択した。これらの実施により、ZigBee 2012規格を採用するZigBee認証製品を将来テストする際にゴールデン・ユニットとして機能する。このテスト・プロセスによって規格準拠が保証され、メーカーは着実な通信を確証できる。テスト・サービスはNTS、TRaC、テュフラインランド（TUV Rheinland）によって提供される。

            Product manufacturers gain a new choice for wirelessly

                     networking energy harvesting devices

     The ZigBee(R) Alliance, a global ecosystem of companies creating wireless

solutions for use in energy management, commercial and consumer applications,

today announced the most eco-friendly way to power ZigBee products via its new

Green Power feature. Products, including switches and dimmers, can now be

easily powered with available energy harvesting sources rather than using a

battery or AC mains power, creating a no-maintenance, environmentally friendly

solution. A free public webinar on Green Power is scheduled for January 24.

     Green Power is an optional feature for the ZigBee PRO feature set that is

part of the enhanced ZigBee 2012 specification recently ratified and released

to Alliance members. It significantly expands the capabilities of ZigBee PRO,

further strengthening its leadership position as the global standard for

wireless sensor and control networks and the Internet of Things. With ZigBee

PRO Green Power products, consumers and businesses can add ZigBee devices to

many more areas including locations where power is unavailable, not allowed for

safety reasons or for historical preservation purposes. Product manufacturers

can implement ZigBee into more products with confidence, knowing ZigBee is

backed by a thriving, innovative and competitive ecosystem.

     "The use of energy harvesting in commercial building automation, for

example, can reduce operating costs while helping organizations to demonstrate

'green' credentials," said Lisa Arrowsmith, manager of connectivity research

for IHS. "Additionally, with over 35 million ZigBee-enabled 'smart home' and

home automation devices that are not line-powered projected to be shipped by

2017, the ZigBee PRO Green Power feature also presents a compelling option in

the residential space."

     As a part of the extensive Alliance test and certification plan

development process, it selected golden unit development kits from GreenPeak

Technologies, Philips, Schneider Electric and Texas Instruments. These

implementations will serve as golden units against which future ZigBee

Certified products using the ZigBee 2012 specification will be tested. This

testing process ensures compliance with the standard so that manufacturers can

be assured of consistent communications. Testing services were provided by NTS,

TRaC and TUV Rheinland.

     "The Green Power feature for ZigBee PRO will allow development of the most

eco-friendly products possible," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee

Alliance. "This smart new feature continues ZigBee leadership in low power

networking by enabling no maintenance power source alternatives to be easily

used in ZigBee Building Automation products."

     Products using Green Power will be eligible to wear the ZigBee

Certified(TM) product logo.

     ZigBee uses self-organizing and self-healing mesh networking to enable

robust communications over the globally available 2.4 GHz frequency and over

868/915 MHz technology in select countries.  Only ZigBee offers superb

interference immunity and the ability to host thousands of devices on a single

devices the ability to be installed almost anywhere, eliminating maintenance
